At 13:19 hours on April 17, 2017, Company's 1, 7, 5, 13, 19, 79, 59, and the Medic Unit were alerted to the Breton Bay Golf Course for an aircraft crash. Squad 1 and Engine 11 responded shortly after dispatch. Squad 1 was first to arrive on scene finding a United States Army UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter that had crash landed on the third hole of the golf course. Chief 1B established the command and Chief 1A assumed the command upon his arrival on the scene. One member of the flight crew was able to self-extricate from the aircraft. Two other members of the flight crew were trapped and a heavy extrication commenced. After further assessment, it was determined that one member of the flight crew was deceased. The third member of the flight crew was extricated from the aircraft and was flown to a local shock trauma center by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 along with the flight crew member who self-extricated. Once the extrication was complete units remained on scene to aid police and army officials who were securing the scene and beginning an investigation.

*The officers and members of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the member of the flight crew who perished in the crash. We would also like to send our best wishes to the rest of the flight crew in hopes that they make a full recovery. We thank you for your service to our nation.*
