On October 12, 2014 at 05:47:47 hours, Company 1, 19, 79 and Medic 4 were dispatched for a CPR in Progress, subject not breathing on Cooper Dr. in the Breton Bay community which is approximately 4 miles from the fire station. Chief Jonathan Scully was returning to his residence from a previous call when the dispatch was transmitted. He was approximately one mile from the location and responded in his command vehicle, arriving on the scene within three minutes [05:50:02] of the dispatch. Equipped with his AED, Chief Scully evaluated the patient and determined that the subject had agonal breathing and a faint pulse. He immediately began bagging the patient and utilized his AED which advised to shock the patient. At this time, he was able to recognize a pulse but it was irregular and then the patient flat lined. Chief Scully, at this time was joined by a trooper from MSP. Chief Scully then applied a second shock and received a positive reaction with pulse and breathing. Paramedics arrived on the scene approximately seven minutes after dispatch [05:54:37] and provided patient with an injection of naloxone at which time the patient regained consciousness. Manpower crew from Company 1 arrived at 05:58:30 to assist and Ambulance 796 from Hollywood VRS arrived to transport patient at 06:05:45 to Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital Priority 1 for further treatment.
