The Annual Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association convention was held on May 2nd and 3rd. This year’s convention was held by Charles County Company 14, Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department.
On Saturday, May 2nd, members from Leonardtown attended the memorial service and dinner, at Newburg’s Fire House. The fire Prevention committee received two awards for the hard work and dedication throughout the year. Fire Chief Jonathan Scully received the Lifesaving award for a CPR save. Also, Past Chief Tommy Mattingly Jr was elected into the SMVFA Hall of Fame. A special thank you is extended to JW Wathen and his committee for all their hard work. The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department would also like to congratulate Chief Scully and Tommy Mattingly Jr on their awards.
On Sunday, May 3rd, 45 department members loaded up on several pieces of apparatus, and headed to Newburg where they would participate in the annual parade and firefighter games. Leonardtown was able to place 22 judged entries in the parade.
