On Friday January 15, 2016, the department was invited to attend the monthly meeting of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees {NARFE} at Olde Breton Inn. Following a great lunch provided by Bailey’s Catering, a presentation was given to the approximately 100 attendees. Information requested and provided was focused on the history of the volunteer fire /EMS service in St. Mary’s County, opportunities to become involved as volunteers, training/operations and fire safety/prevention recommendation that can make the retirees and their families safe from fire. Information on these topics was provided and a lengthy question and answer session was held. Many questions were focused on home fire safety, new smoke detectors and their maintenance, sprinkler systems and future of the volunteer system we have today. The presentation was well received and we would like to thank President Joe Luskus for the invitation to provided information on fire safety to this wonderful group of retired federal employees.
