First Due Structure Fire

At 0626 hrs. on Tuesday April 5, the emergency dispatch center was notified by a passing ambulance from Company 38 that they observed what looked like a shed on fire across from Cedar Lane Apartment’s. Dispatch was originally made for a shed fire and was almost immediately upgraded to a full structure assignment with Company 1,7,6,9 and 5 alerted. Engine 11 arrived on the scene with heavy fire showing from a 50x30 garage, with extension into the residence. Engine 11's crew advanced two 1 3/4 handlines to the seat of the fire, knocking the residence first, then extinguishing the garage. Engine 14 arrived moments later to establish Engine 11's water supply at a plug in front of Cedar Lane Apt. Company 7 arrived within minutes of the initial attack and assisted in control of the fire which took about 30 minutes. Company’s 6, 9 and 5 arrived and provided secondary water supply and manpower to overhaul the scene. St. Mary’s County Sheriff patrol and MD. State Police provided traffic control and Ambulances from Company 38, 6 and Medic 3 provided EMS support. Investigation was handled by State Fire Marshall’s office. Power was secured by SMECO and all units cleared the scene at 0900 hrs.
