At 01:42 hours on May 7, 2017 Company's 1, 7, 19, 79, and the Medic Unit were dispatched to 43300 St. Andrews Church Road in the area of Fairgrounds Road for the motor vehicle accident reported serious. Initial reports indicated a single vehicle was involved with one patient possibly ejected. Squad 1 and Engine 1 made the response.

Units arrived to find a single vehicle that was ripped in half after leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole. The driver (who was the only occupant) was ejected. After further assessment, it was determined that the patient was deceased. Units remained on scene for a considerable amount of time to aid police as they began an accident reconstruction and investigation. Chief 1 held the command.

The officers and members of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department would like to send our deepest condolences to those affected by this incident.

*Initial reports from the police indicate that the vehicle was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. Your Leonardtown Volunteers strongly urge the public to drive slowly and safely especially now that summer is right around the corner and activity is increasing later into the evenings. Please wear your seatbelt, have a designated driver, and slow down so that you and everyone else on the road make it home safe.*
