While Leonardtown VFD members and apparatus were still operating on a warehouse fire in Seventh District, Station 1 was alerted for a First Due house fire. At 0430 hours St. Mary’s county fire units, and surrounding jurisdictions were alerted to Potomac Ave, in St. Clements Shores for a reported house on fire. Tanker 63 was filling in a LVFD and was the first arriving unit, finding a two-story single-family home on a basement with fire throughout. At this point it was determined the mode of extinguishment was defense operations. Tanker 14 cleared the fire scene in Seventh District and was next to arrive, supplying the fire ground. Tanker 14s crew was assigned to assist with defense fire attack operations. Engine 10 arrived on location and was instructed to lay a supply line from the fire scene to a nearby boat ramp. Engine 10 at this time would be preforming drafting operations from Breton Bay, and providing a continuous water supply for the remainder of the incident. Due to Truck 1 still be committed on a fire in Avenue Truck 7 would operate as the first due truck. Command instructed Truck 7 to prepare for ladder pipe operations. A defense attack was still in the works due to a structure collapse on the rear of the home. Once, the majority of the fire was knocked units transitioned to the offensive mode removing debris, and overhauling. Units from Leonardtown and Valley lee operated on the fire scene for roughly 3 hours. Chief 1B held the St. Clements Shores command. There were no injuries, and all occupants were accounted for. |
