On October 20, 2014 at 1416 hours, Company 1 was dispatched for a call at 41961 Satchel Page Way, for the reported flooding conditions. Truck 1 responded with a crew of four and upon arriving, Captain Watts entered the residential townhouse structure to find that a sprinkler activation had occurred from a pan of food on the stove in the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished by the residential system with no extension. The Truck crew secured the system and assisted the resident of the town home with water cleanup. We then advised the building maintenance personnel of what was needed to place the system back in service and we returned in service. The maintenance worker advised that the sprinkler company had been notified and was en route.

This location is one of several located throughout St. Mary’s County that is owned and managed by the St. Mary’s County Housing Authority. While this facility included residential sprinklers when constructed, the Housing Authority has been very proactive in providing residential systems in all of their properties as they were renovated.
