Leonardtown Takes In First Due Fire

At 19:56 hours Companies 1 (Leonardtown), 5 (Seventh District), 7 (Hollywood), 2 (Mechanicsville), 19 (Leonardtown VRS), 59 (Seventh District VRS) were alerted to Box 1-07 at 22393 St. Clements Avenue in St. Clements Shores for the report of a house fire. Initial reports indicated that there were multiple 911 calls made and that they stated that there was fire through the roof.

Engine 10 (Lt. Bell) was on the air with Santa Runs in the Breton Bay area responded immediately. Chief 1 (Scully) responded and was advised by dispatch that there was one resident who lived at the house, callers were unsure if that resident was out of the house. Moments later, Chief 1 arrived on scene with heavy fire on all four sides and established the command. Moments later, Command advised that neighbors had removed the resident from the structure and that he wanted a primary search to be completed. Ambulance 196 responded from staging into the scene to establish patient care for the resident. Engine 10 arrived on location set up their deck gun in order to establish a blitz attack on the fire prior to making entry in the residence. A line was put in service to protect the exposure and then made entry into the residence. SMECO was requested for a priority response due to wires being down at the residence. Engine 10's crew made an aggressive interior fire attack until the water sources were depleted. Engine 74 and Engine 14 (FF J. Mattingly) arrived on the scene at the same time and re-established a primary water supply for Engine 10 from Gore Street.

Engine 74 crew was sent to the house with instructions to pull a secondary 1 3/4 inch handline to help with the fire attack. Engine 51 and Water Supply 5 arrived on scene next. Engine 51 and Water Supply 5 arrived, Water Supply 5 was directed to St. Clements Shore Boat Ramp to establish a water supply.

Engine 51 crew was sent to check the exposures to the house. Squad 2 arrived at this time as well and were assigned the duties of the first arriving special service. Truck 7 also arrived on scene at this time was instructed to help Engine 51 with protecting the exposures. Truck 1 arrived moments later and was advised to stage prior to the scene and to send their crew to the scene to establish the RIT. Engine 24 arrived on scene at this time as well and helped with water supply operations.

At this time Command advised that the fire was under control and that the Fire Marshall was needed. Squad 2 and Truck 7 began extensive overhaul and ventilation to the structure. Ambulance 196 transported the resident to St. Mary's Hospital for smoke inhalation. Ambulance 196 would return to the fire ground after the transport. After approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes into the operation, Command was terminated and units were advised to go in service when available. The State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire at this time.

Engine 93 was alerted to fill-in at Company 1's quarters during the incident. LVFD wishes a speedy recovery for the resident affected by this fire.
